My mission with Squats + Juke Music was born from a deep love of movement. To me, juke music is the heartbeat of our city. It’s more than just a genre it’s a cultural force that shaped our youth, created space for joy and freedom, and continues to bring Black communities together through sound and movement. As a group fitness instructor for over five years and a public health educator since 2019, I’ve come to understand that movement is more than just physical. It’s community. It’s healing. And it’s health promotion in action.
Squats + Juke Music is rooted in cultural memory, emotional connection, and a nostalgic sense of joy that puts us back in touch with our younger, freer selves. It taps into the psychological and emotional benefits of music and memory reminding us of who we were before the world got heavy.
This was created to meet Black women where they are: through the music we grew up on, in the bodies we live in, and within the community we deserve. It’s not just a workout.
I hope every person who participates feels seen, loved, and reconnected with their power.
